Downtown Farmers Market Operating As Essentials Market
To protect farmers, ranchers, and the general public, The Downtown Farmers Market of Manhattan will suspend normal operations and will open an Essentials Market beginning April 18th, continuing until further notice. Like grocery stores, farmers markets are essential to the health and well being of our community, and local farmers are essential to the stability of our food system. Under normal circumstances, farmers protect our community with rigorous food safety plans. While we are living in abnormal times, our farmers will continue delivering safe food in a safe environment. To protect our vendors and our community, we have made several changes to the market and we look forward to restoring our full and exciting market experience when we can ensure community safety.
The following changes will take effect until further notice:
Pets are not allowed at the market.
The Saturday morning hour between 8 to 9 AM will be designated an “elevated risk hour,” reserved for those over 60 or with health factors that put them at an elevated risk of complications from COVID-19.
Space will be added between stalls to allow for social distancing.
Walkways will be widened to maintain 6 feet between customers.
Market attendees and essential producers are requested to wear masks or face coverings, however we understand not everyone can wear once for medical reasons.
The market president will circulate the market to help encourage adherence to safety protocols.
For Customers:
Vendors will follow local guidelines regarding sampling.
Customers are requested to not handle produce prior to purchase.
We ask that customers bring small bills to avoid making change.
We ask that customers leave food and beverages for personal consumption at home.
To speed up shopping, we ask that you come to the market with a purchase plan and limit visiting with fellow shoppers.
As this public health situation evolves on a daily basis, we will respond accordingly to make our Essential Market as safe as possible, while still allowing customers access to essential products from local producers.
